SIDNEY - An earthquake of 7.0 magnitude on the Richter scale struck the Loyalty Islands in New Caledonia. There is no tsunami threat following reports the quake.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake was located at a depth of 4.6 kilometers at 125 kilometers northeast Tadina in the Loyalty Islands.
USGS alone could detect an earthquake that occurred at that time early this morning on the strength of 7.3 on the Richter scale. But after reviewing the earthquake seismologists, the quake reduced strength at the level of 7.0 on the Richter scale.
