TERESOPOLIS - horrible scene could be witnessed in the City Terespolis, Brazil, not far from the capital city of Rio de Janeiro after water and mud caused landslides that killed more than 430residents.
This is the worst disaster in Brazil in recent decades.
"I thought I would die," said Ilair Pereira de Souza (53) as disitat AFP on Friday (14/01/2011). She was miraculously able to escape thanks to a neighbor who threw a rope to him.
Recordings featuring Ilair shouting desperately for help with appearances on television stations throughout the Brazilian audience.
This woman managed to hold the mine before it silted up. However, he managed to come to the surface again with a permanent hold on the rope, the only hope of life.
